Disk Animal Accolades

This month, a prestigious G-Mark Good Design Award was bestowed upon Bandai's Kamen Rider Hibiki Disk Animal toy series. The award was granted under the "Intellectual / Education Related Commodity" section, and granted to Bandai, the design house PLEX, and the toy's chief designer Kazuhiro Kikuchi.

The design is noted by the awards committee for "functional beauty, simplicity, and visual coherence in both modes", further commenting, "The genius is that it's not an epoch making item; it's merely a simple disk, yet it's fun and innovative, and faithfully reproduces the tv characters". Kikuchi comments simply, "The goal was folding disk origami".

It's also worth noting the Disk Animal series has been a consistent best seller this year for Bandai, often being sold out in retail outlets.
